Skills for Life/ESOL Skills for Life is the government strategy to improve the literacy and numeracy skills of adults over the age of 16. If you have literacy or numeracy skills below Level 2 (GCSE A-C level) you can work towards improving these skills and achieve equivalent to a GCSE C or D which is Level 1 or Level 2. Skills for Life will improve your confidence, make you better at everyday tasks which involves basic skills, perform better in the workplace and in the home. You will be allowed to carry out this training alongside your apprenticeship training. Alex who was on an apprenticeship with an engineering company achieved no qualifications while he was at school but now attends half a day for his engineering training and half a day on his Skills for Life and is working towards a Level 2 which is equivalent to a GCSE C. Alex says: 'I got more help than at school and get treated more like an adult.' Another learner said: 'I enjoyed it. It wasn't like the sort of things they forced you to do at school.' ESOL
ESOL (English for Speakers of other Languages) is one of the three main strands of the government's Skills for Life strategy. The strategy aims to improve significantly the literacy and numeracy, Information and Communication Technology and language skills of adults in England. The qualifications reflect the skills knowledge and understanding in England needed by people who are living, working and studying in England. They allow for the progression across the levels of the National Qualification Framework (NQF) at entry level, Level 1 and 2. Why do you need them? ESOL learning programmes are designed to meet the language development needs of adult learners living and working in England, including settled communities, refugees and asylum seekers or migrant workers resident in England. If you require any further information on these programmes please contact Annette Belson on 01603 259900 or complete our contact form. |
