Motor vehicle This NVQ is a work-based qualification which assesses the skills and knowledge that people in your job need to perform their job role effectively. It is a motor industry qualification that covers activities that relate to service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots. Successful candidates will demonstrate a broad working knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage. The qualification includes the following areas:

The candidate will demonstrate their skills and knowledge by collecting evidence of their work. This evidence is usually presented in a portfolio (however your approved centre may use an alternative method). In order to achieve an Apprenticeship, Key Skills (Communication Level 1, Application of Level 1 and Information Technology Level 1) and a Technical Certificate (Certificate in Vehicle Fitting Level 2 or the Progression Award in Automotive Servicing and Repair Level 2) are required to be added to this NVQ. This qualification is very flexible in its structure, enabling the organisation and individual to choose the optional units which best suit their work and job role. Although all units need to be achieved to gain the NVQ, each unit is a ‘mini qualification’ and can be separately accredited.
